I'd forgotten how much I loved this film when I was a kid. Now, looking through my drawing from when I was around 6 and 7, I realized how often I would draw cartoon characters, and I must have gone through 9 Little Mermaids.
So hey, why not pay some proper tribute.
Inspired by the beautifully simple style of Aimee Fleck, who also has a Tumblr.
*sigh* i love this film still! that sequence is still amazing to me now, except now i notice the brilliant use of the colours to create the mood. I love how here she seems to be melting away into the background, and the sense of movement and energy is lovely in the flowing, swirling lines.
I know! There are some really striking colour keys in a few scenes, like when the boat is on fire and Ariel saves Eric from drowning and everything underwater is black and gold. Some pretty powerful stuff in that movie. Thanks!
i think it does get overlooked too much - Disney colour schemes are gorgeous, i watched Alladin the other night and the whole red/blue theme really stood out!
